Your Car

Last week Cori was the winner with Colin close behind. Guess cute little kids trump airplanes and sunsets. Good work Cori.
Judges I also noticed that each one of us received a perfect 10. Seriously? We are looking for some constructive criticism not perfect 10s. What are you going to give us when we finally get good at this?
This week we had to take a photo of our car. No going down to the Jaguar dealer to snap a few - our own car.

The trail head parking lot at the top of Tantalus Dr.. I love taking pics in the dark. Used only the car's dome light and a small flashlight.

CK - Fit for any battle.

CM - My Car, sort of.

My biggest pet peeve when it comes to photos is framing. Dad (JK), your tire runs over the edge of the frame and takes the viewer away from the image. Your colors are great, exposure could be crisper, but I can't get past the framing issue on this one.
Cori's (CM) photo is better when it comes to framing, but still could have been tweaked better--maybe center the coin in the middle of the picture with the frame of the car directly behind it.
I have plenty of framing issues with my own photo this week, but I'll let you all find them. However, regarding Dad's comment a few weeks back about the smudges on the glass in one of my pictures (Refection), I decided to wash my car right before the shoot.

Colin, the problem was that moon. I had several pics where the car was framed much better but that really cool moon was out of the frame. I had to get the moon in there and there was no more room to back up. Yours is framed really well. Might like to see some different angles to compare but this looks good. I didn't want to have to wash my car ,,, so I shot it in the dark.

Hey wait a minute Colin, Where is the bottom of your airplane? Why isn't that in the frame?

6-JK Full points for creativity. At first (second and third) glance I wasn't even sure it was a picture.. then I thought that maybe it was a picture of a painting. The colors are fantastic. It looks more like a painting than a photograph.

10-CK Wow. That picture would make a perfect professional car ad just as is. The color, clarity and creativity of the picture is really top notch. I am impressed.

6-CM This is a very creative angle to take a pic from in a car. Took me a while to figure it out. I like that. The picture composition has the black plastic piece (from behind the review mirror?) as the most in focus, which seems a bit off (is that the right word?) from the entire picture.

Just as a comment overall, I think the captions take away from the photos. I prefer to have only my personal perception coloring what I see, rather than having the photographer try to explain their thinking or feeling behind the photo.

So this is not a group that likes abstract??? ;)

Colin, I see your point about centering the object hanging from the rear view mirror, I had one version like that, but I decided to center an element of the actual car to be a LITTLE closer to the topic.

Anonymous :)...yes, meant to have part of the car in focus and the object hanging from it, with the rest blurred. I wanted to take a pic of my car since that was the topic (without actually seeing my car because I didn't really want to take a pic of my car ;) so I took a pic of a part of my car with a blurred color background.

I vote for Colin as winner this week. Yeah, Cori yours is a bit too abstract. But trying new things is important and you get points for that. As long as you're learning, right? Colin yours is close to perfect. A way better photo than mine. The judges seem to like the color I get in a lot of my pics but you showed your talent as a photographer on this one. Send it to Honda.
