Spotlight

Colin and I fought that last one to a tie. Actually I think no one knew how to judge that one, so different were the photos. 
However, I do have an issue with Colin's photo. He took it while driving his car. So I'm submitting one of my very best for this week and hope to kick his butt as a way of reminding him not to take pics while driving. 

This weeks topic is "Spotlight."

Smoke and Shadows

Most of you now know by now I like to keep the topics simple. Water. Long exposure. Simple but with lots of room for creativity.

I won that one. Kekai had a great pic but the judges liked both the mystical feeling and the sharp focus of my photo. Took it at a stream just above the Nature Center. In the original photo that little waterfall was only a small part of what was in the frame. I cropped everything else out. Guess that worked.

I will be going to that fountain in Kekai's pic to take a few. Great idea.

I think Colin and Kekai both like the more complex ideas. This week Kekai chose "Smoke and Shadows." We all did our best with that and here they are.

Long Exposure with Water

Last week Colin's photo of DT Oakland was the winner. Guess a few people liked my Go Pro Camera in the dryer but I agree, Colin's was a better picture.  I hope I got the back of the dryer on correctly.

This week was my choice.  I just wanted to keep it simple. A long exposure picture of water. And because this contest is about us learning from each I have asked for shutter speed, ISO and apature setting. 

A long exposure shot is where the shutter is open 2 seconds or more. Lots of creative options.

Colin was too caught up in work this week so he's not involved. Just me and Kekai.

Technology is Everywhere

Well, Kekai really had a good photo that the judges really liked. He was the winer of the "Simply Complicated" contest. His was photo B. Also worth noting - he took that pic with an, I think, 4 year old iPhone. I did ask Colin and he said, no, you don't need special glasses to view his pic. It's supposed to be that way. 

This week Colin chose "Technology is Everywhere" as the next topic. And this week its just me and Colin.

Simply Complicated

I'd like to congratulate Kekai on his great runner up photo. It was taken with his iPhone. I'm impressed with the pic and I think it shows his talent as a photographer that he did it with a phone and not a relatively sophisticated DSLR camera.
My pic of the photographers at Ala Moana Beach Park was the one that got the most votes from the judges.
This week Kekai chose "simply complicated" as the topic. I don't think he had any communication with Colin but what's up with these vague topics? Reminds me of Colin's "The Void" idea. Oh well, we all gave it our best shot.

Silhouette

Last week Colin won "Beneath the Surface,"  I had all sorts of great ideas for that one that I never got around to. Had to grab one from my "portfolio." Maybe we'll revisit it in the future. Congrats Colin. Care to explain your winning photo?

One More Distraction

This is a picture I worked on for too long, I think. It's not what I thought it would end up as. Anyway, it's here to take questions and thoughts.

Beneath the Surface

Last round was a tie. Seems that each judge had a different take on the photos. 
My photo was picture A. Colin's edit of my pic was B.
Colin's photo was picture C and my edit of his pic was D. 
I liked my version of my pic better and Colin's version of his pic better. Tough to pic between the two. I liked my photo better but Colin scored higher in editing. So even I think it was a tie.

Colin chose "Beneath the Surface" as the next topic. And all you have to do to vote is make two clicks at the right sidebar.

Some More Kozlovich Originals

First off, there is many a Kozlovich out there, but Jeffery seems to think there is only one Koz to make a good photo. So I took a poll of my own, and here are some of my recent favorites. No explanations, just tell me what you think.

A few extra pics

Same location, same day and less than 5 minutes apart. They are all mine. My favorite is the top one. The most difficult part of photographing sunsets in Hawaii is the colors are too vivid and tend to look fake. Hard to get a subtle sunset around here.

Don't get distracted by this until you finish judging the previous post, "Boats,"down below.

Last week that was my lonely flower and Colin took a photo of Tu being bad. Judges said I won.

Judges, we have something different for you this week. Colin and I both took a "boat" photo. We then did some editing of the photo. Then we exchanged photos and I edited Colin's and he edited mine.
So below in "comments"  judge round 1, then judge round 2. Just explain what version of the photo you liked better and maybe a few words about why.

Fragile

As soon as I saw Colin's last picture (Splash) I was sure he had me beat. I thought it was one of the best so far of this contest. But . . . the judges thought otherwise. Guess they liked my color. I didn't waste any good whisky, that was watered down coffee I was pouring to get my splash. 

Now we are on to "Fragile."

Colin won the last one. Guess his crowd was better. Mine was a crowd of boats. And that thing that looked like the sun was actually a streetlight. Just thought you should know.

This one we had two whole weeks to work on. And because of my being rather busy this past week (if you've seen my facebook page you'll know why) I did not get to  making the judging any easier.

Through the Crowd

Last "FUN" group was won by Colin. Was not even close. He has that part of the pic in focus/part not thing down really well. ( the term for that is bokeh)

This week Cori was too busy to submit a photo so its back to me and Colin.

I am working on a way the  judges can just point and click to judge. This week just do it how you've been doing it and I think next week I'll have a better way.

Your Car

Last week Cori was the winner with Colin close behind. Guess cute little kids trump airplanes and sunsets. Good work Cori.

Judges I also noticed that each one of us received a perfect 10. Seriously? We are looking for some constructive criticism not perfect 10s. What are you going to give us when we finally get good at this?

This week we had to take a photo of our car. No going down to the Jaguar dealer to snap a few - our own car.

The trail head parking lot at the top of Tantalus Dr.. I love taking pics in the dark. Used only the car's dome light and a small flashlight.

Up in the Air

Its getting hard to keep humble - I won the last one. Actually I have entered photos in a few "real' photo contests lately. That's where I'm learning humility.

This week Colin chose the topic "up in the air."

Judges, perhaps you are getting bored with this already. If so, just hand off your judging responsibilities off to someone else. You don't even have to tell me. I don't care if they are related or not.

 Yes, I gave the other photographers  the opportunity to add a caption or a sentence or two. They did not take advantage of this.
